Upon This Rock I Will Build My Church Discipleship - Session 1

Written by Sharyn Culp
Inspired By Holy Spirit

Greetings to you in the name of His Majesty! Pastor George has shared with us that each of you have made the most important decision in your life – to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. We are rejoicing with you! Hallelujah! For sure, this decision is life changing and you will never be the same! Amen.

Loved One, God is building His church and it takes every one of us, including each of you doing your part for God to accomplish what He wants to do on the earth. It takes all of us to establish His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven by the Word of God and personality of Holy Spirit (Matt. 6:10; Zech. 4:6). You are special! You are special to His Majesty and you are special HMM. You now have a job to do for God and an opportunity to be a part of something "big" God is doing in the earth.  It is our honor to share this Biblical teaching with you and pray it encourages you, edifies you and helps you become all God has destined you to become for His Kingdom and Him.

1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
9  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Matthew 16:18 (NKJV)
18  And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

In this passage of scripture, Jesus was telling Peter He was going to build the church on the revelation Peter had received from God, that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Matthew 16:13-17 (NKJV)
13  When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"
14  So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15  He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16  Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17  Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

1 Corinthians 12:3 (NKJV)
3  Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19-22 (NKJV)
19  Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
20  having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone,
21  in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
22  in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Loved One, if you can call Jesus Lord, it truly by Holy Spirit and praise God, you now have a heavenly Father. It is important that every day we lay foundation in this "whole building being joined together, growing it into a holy temple in the Lord, as we are all being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit"  for God's Kingdom that can never be uprooted. You have come into a life of faith and it is because of this rock foundation that we have this living faith, a foundation that cannot be overthrown. Hallelujah!

Let's ask ourselves how are we going to lay foundation for God's Kingdom that can never be uprooted or overthrown every day?

We need to remind ourselves every day to "make ready" ourselves so we bless God and be our best for the Kingdom and Him. For the next few minutes we would like to share with you some truths we believe will help you grow strong and enrich your walk with God.

  • We believe prayer and developing your personal prayer life is the first all-important step  to growing strong in the Lord.

As a personal word of testimony when I began to pray the Lord's prayer and pray an hour a day my whole life changed. God filled me with the baptism of Holy Spirit and called me into the ministry. That was in 1988 and I still love, love, love my prayer time to this day. I just cannot seem to get enough of Him!  I realize you may be asking how will I ever find time to spend an hour a day in prayer? Believe me, as you start out praying a few minutes a day, making a prayer appointment with God, your prayer life will grow and your relationship with the Lord will deepen to depths you never would have believed possible. I promise you it is time well spent as you get to know your Lord and Savior intimately and walk closer and closer to Him as He leads you.

Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV)
9  In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
10  Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us this day our daily bread.
12  And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 26:40-41 (NKJV)
40  Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour?
41  Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

  • We believe being baptized (immersion in water) is an all-important step to being obedient and growing strong in the Lord. When you are baptized you are saying "your old man is dying along with your past, and you are being resurrected to your new life in Christ. You are a new creature in Christ.???????

Galatians 3:26-27 (NKJV)
26  For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27  For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Acts 8:38 (NKJV)
38  So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
Matthew 3:16 (NKJV)
16  When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
19  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

  • We believe spending time reading and studying the Word of God is an all-important step to growing strong in the Lord.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)
15  Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

John 6:33 (NKJV)
33  For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
John 6:51 (NKJV)
51  I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."

  • We believe attending church regularly, fellowshipping with the saints of God and partaking of Communion are all-important steps to growing in the Lord.

Acts 2:46-47 (NKJV)
46  with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
47  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)
24  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
25  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

  • Lastly, but not least in any way, we believe you being a witness first by living a holy life before others in this world, and as Holy Spirit leads you, tell others what God has done in your life for His glory! We can all be witnesses for Jesus! Amen.

1 Peter 1:13-16 (NKJV)
13  Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
15  but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16  because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
8  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Loved One, we pray this time spent in the Word of God led by Holy Spirit will help you "walk" the "walk", "get your feet wet" and soar on eagles' wings with God to the highest level He has for you bringing Him glory in Jesus' name. Amen.

His Majesty and we honor and love you! Welcome to the family of God! We have loved spending this time with His Majesty and you.  Know deep within your hearts we are praying for you as you travel your new journey in Christ! Amen.
